If you are looking to remove or improve the appearance of moles and other benign skin lesions, we can help. Here at Dr. Fielding's office we offer a full selection of cosmetic plastic surgery services for our patients, including mole removal options.
What is a Mole?
A mole is an overgrowth of skin pigment cells called melanocytes. A large number of moles, (over 100) can cause an increased likelihood of developing skin cancer (melanoma). Some moles are removed for medical reasons, and others for cosmetic reasons only.
Mole Removal Procedure
Mole removal can be completed in a few minutes, and many moles can be removed within the span of a single surgical treatment. Depending on the type of mole and other factors, removal may be performed by excision or by shaving. Excision leaves a small scar, while shaving avoids scarring when possible. With either approach, tissue can usually be sent for examination to confirm whether a growth is benign or cancerous.
As a Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Fielding has many years of experience managing skin cancers and various other conditions requiring surgery on the skin. This includes basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and malignant melanoma. He offers management advice on whether a lesion should be biopsied or excised, and is able to provide numerous options for reconstruction following surgery.
