If you suffer from drooping or falling eyelids (ptosis), then we may be able to help you here at Dr. Fielding's office. Dr. Fielding has years of experience in surgical procedures related to the eye, including ptosis.
What is Ptosis?
Ptosis, also referred to as Blepharoptosis, includes the presence of one or both upper eyelids having abnormal, low-lying, upper eyelid margin to the lower eyelid. Ptosis only includes sagging of the upper eyelids and does not include lower eyelids. Ptosis includes mild eyelid drooping as well as severe cases which can obstruct or even completely block one's vision. Ptosis can present in children as well as adults.
The cause of ptosis is the dysfunctioning of one or both upper eyelid elevator muscles. These elevator muscles are the levator palpebrae superioris and the Mueller muscle. Repair of the drooping eyelid is often done as a component of cosmetic blepharoplasty, and can be done under local anesthetic.
